Two consortiums in Chile adapt mining equipment to use green hydrogen as fuelmiércoles, 07 noviembre 2018 Both technological initiatives seek to promote the entry of new sources of energy in the mining industry, and then focus on production. The objective is for Chile to be a global hub of zero emission hydrogen in the short term. The Corporation for the Promotion of Production (CORFO), co-finances two technological consortiums that seek to adapt extraction trucks and mobile mining equipment, to a dual oil-hydrogen combustion and to fuel cells, respectively. In what is the first step to transform the regions of Antofagasta and Atacama into world leaders in the green production of green hydrogen, an economically competitive fuel that does not generate carbon dioxide (CO2).From Corfo explain that as part of the roadmap of the Solar Energy Program, has been coordinating efforts to make visible this opportunity for the productive transformation of the country and has initiated the path of technological development and innovation initiatives through programs or consortiums technological, integrated by leading universities and companies.Through these efforts, the Corporation hopes to boost the penetration of new sources of energy in the mining industry and generate the demand for green hydrogen, to then be able to focus on production. Thus, it currently provides co-financing to two consortiums.
