What is the fuel cell of a car?

A fuel cell is an electrochemical device in which hydrogen and oxygen react to generate electricity. It is similar to a conventional electric battery … with the proviso that the substance that functions as an anode and cathode is not stored inside the battery, but is fed from the outside. In this way, a fuel cell generates electricity while hydrogen and oxygen are injected.

Powerhouse Energy company turning waste plastic into fuel for hydrogen cars

Powerhouse Energy has developed a process where it shreds the waste and then heats it to around 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit to produce syngas — a mixture of hydrogen, methane and carbon monoxide. Syngas can either be burned to produce electricity, or the hydrogen can be separated out to power fuel cells in vehicles.
