New generation of ULPHE-PEM fuel cellsmartes, 15 mayo 2018 In the Conference on Hydrogen and Fuel Cells held last Thursday, May 10, Pedro L. García Ybarra presented the new generation of fuel cells ULPHE-PEM, which has been developed by the Research Group of Fluid Physics of the UNED in Madrid that he directs and that has been patented. The purpose of the Research Group is to reduce the manufacturing cost of the fuel cell by reducing the Platinum needed for the electrocatalyst. The objective is to limit the necessary platinum to 11 grams per vehicle, using a 90 kW PEMFC type fuel cell, which means 1 gram of platinum for every 8 kW of power, without also suffering a significant loss of performance during the time of use, and allowing a catalyst life of at least 5,000 hours.
