First ‘perfect’ chemical reactor that produces hydrogenmiércoles, 29 mayo 2019 A new chemical reactor is capable of producing ‘green’ hydrogen as a stream of pure product, eliminating the need for costly separation of final products. The new thermodynamically reversible device, described by scientists at the University of Newcastle in the academic journal Nature Chemistry, avoids mixing reactive gases by transferring oxygen between the reactant streams through a solid state oxygen reservoir. This reservoir is designed to remain close to equilibrium with the gas streams that react as they follow their reaction path and, therefore, retain a «chemical memory» of the conditions to which they have been exposed. The result is that hydrogen is produced as a stream of pure product, eliminating the need for costly separation of the final products.
