Continues the bet for the use of hydrogen fuel cells for the propulsion of shipslunes, 04 febrero 2019 ABB and Sintef Ocean are carrying out joint research to test the feasibility of using fuel cells as an energy source for the main propulsion of ships.This new research project seeks to offer answers to develop fuel cell technology for the propulsion of commercial and passenger ships.The tests will be carried out in the Sintef Ocean laboratory in Trondheim, with two 30 kW fuel cells, configured to control and operate a complete power system of a scale propulsion plant. These tests will analyze the technical aspects of the scale effect and what the optimal cell / battery combinations will be.
