Hydrogen production at the Hellisheidi geothermal plant in Icelandjueves, 09 agosto 2018 Geothermal power distribution company ON Power has announced that it will start experimental production of hydrogen at the Hellisheidi geothermal plant, near Reykjavik in Iceland. The project corresponds to a European research project that is developed in collaboration with the Icelandic companies Orkan and Iceland New Energy.The Icelandic geothermal energy company ON Power has announced that it will begin experimental hydrogen production in the coming weeks. An electrolyte has been purchased and is being installed in an area close to the Hellisheidi geothermal power plant. The sale of cars is expected to begin in October.The installation of the hydrogen station is part of a European research project in which ON Power participates with two other Icelandic companies; Orkan, owned by Skeljung (operator of the Iceland gas station) and Icelandic New Energy. Orkan opened two hydrogen dispensers earlier this summer. For now, imported hydrogen will be used until the hydrogen starts from the new station.The production capacity of the electrolyte is high compared to the cars in use. Greater use is expected in the near future, including hydrogen powered buses.
