United Kingdom tests with the hydrogen train of Alstommartes, 13 marzo 2018 The United Kingdom is the latest in a small but growing list of countries that have shown interest in hydrogen trains. This has been highlighted by its policy makers and the Railway Safety and Standards Council of the United Kingdom, which works with the train manufacturer Alstom, has gotten to work and hopes to start a pilot test of trains powered by hydrogen by 2019 or early 2020.The moves come after UK Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said hydrogen trains were «a priority» and Transport Minister Jo Johnson said the government would consider taking diesel locomotives from roads for 2040.The decision to introduce hydrogen trains into the UK rail network came after the government opted not to electrify the northern part of the Midland Main Line, a major rail route connecting London with Manchester and Leeds.
