The system consists of a pad that rests on the ground and connects to an outlet. The pad, which is water resistant and can be placed outside, contains a primary coil that transfers electricity through a magnetic field to a secondary coil located under the nose of the car. Known as inductive load, it is the same technology found in electric toothbrush chargers, only much more powerful.
